About Me
Every individual possesses a unique story and strengths that are important in helping guide them to recovery. To achieve sustainable wellbeing, my focus is twofold: on health—that is, a patient’s strengths—as well as on the “disease,” or problem. Having conversations is critical, and I enjoy sitting down and connecting with patients to explore their stories and strengths.
My approach to psychotherapy is varied. For instance, psychotropic medications can sometimes be helpful as an adjunct in the process of recovery if used in an appropriately-directed manner. Yet I have also found that sometimes the patient gets better by de-prescribing; that is, by reducing the dosages or number of medications one takes while developing health through other ways, such as psychotherapy, sobriety, and focusing on physical and social health.
I was drawn to psychiatry in medical school when I became fascinated with the complex interplay between the brain, the mind, the body and the social aspects of an individual, and how these combine in various ways to affect a person’s life.
