About Me
Helping my geriatric patients maintain their functional independence is very rewarding. A big part of that success is ensuring shared and informed decision-making with my patients. That requires good communication, delivering messages with clarity and ultimately building trust. The result is the ability to deliver treatment plans that align with my patients’ goals.
As a former caregiver at several assisted living facilities and nursing homes, I was lucky to have assisted patients with their daily living activities such as toileting, bathing, dressing and feeding. It drew me to the subspecialty of geriatrics. As we all know, it is one of the most underserved specialties in medicine; even a lot of medical literature and medical research and studies tend to exclude the elderly.
And so, after my family medicine residency training, I completed a fellowship in geriatrics, which further helped me finetune my skills as a family physician in directing individualized care to this patient population. I am thankful for the specialized training and believe that being a geriatrician has made me more empathic and a better listener.
